Over Rev! 90’s – Sonic Beauties in Motion

By Katsumi Yamaguchi
Creator of Over Rev! and Cross Over Rev!

“Back then, we were racing and falling in love at full throttle.”

It was the 1990s.
A time when the scent of gasoline mixed with the thrill of love lingered in the air.
No smartphones. No social media.
Only you, your machine, and the winding roads ahead.

In that hot-blooded era, young women in Japan fell in love — not just with people, but with speed, machines, and the raw adrenaline of the drive.

Now, their stories roar back to life.

Welcome to
Over Rev! 90’s ~ Sonic Beauties in Motion

🚗 More Than Nostalgia

This isn’t just a retro tribute — it’s a manga that captures a time when emotions ran as hot as engine oil, and driving was a form of self-expression.

Through each chapter, readers relive snapshots of youth —
late-night drives, weekend battles on mountain passes, and the irreplaceable memories of sitting beside someone special in your favorite ride.

The manga revisits those fleeting, unforgettable moments when you and your car became one.

Based on Real Stories – A Manga You Can Join

What makes this project special?
It’s interactive.
Readers are invited to share their own memories with their beloved cars, and those stories may be turned into manga episodes.

It’s your chance to become part of this living history —
where personal memories become art, and your car becomes a manga heroine’s ride.

90s Japan: Where Love and Horsepower Were Equal

In a world without GPS or Instagram, love letters were handwritten, and directions were given with folded maps.

Girls didn’t just wait in the passenger seat —
they took the wheel, challenged the roads, and lived on the edge.

Over Rev! 90’s captures their pulse, their speed, and their stories.

From the Creator of Over Rev!

Katsumi Yamaguchi, the legendary manga artist behind Over Rev!, returns with this passion-fueled revival —
still drawing the thrill of speed, decades after his debut.

Now Serialized in Young Champion Retsu

(Akita Shoten Publishing)

Your engine is your heart.
Every page you turn, it beats louder.
And when you’re done reading, maybe — just maybe — you’ll want to go for a drive again.

  1. As someone who was born in 2002 and doesn’t live in Japan, I feel a little awkward reading this post. On the other hand, it’s very interesting to look at the history of street racing in Japan in the 90s. Again, I don’t see the point in writing about support, there’s already a lot written on Instagram. However, the idea of interactivity is very interesting.

    1. Thank you for your message. I will explain why I am posting this.

A new creative ecosystem for creators that is not dependent on publishers.
This project is not just about soliciting sponsors for one manga work.
We are looking at a future where the next generation of manga artists and creators can live with their own stories.

Not bound by the framework of a publisher,

connecting with fans, working with companies, and contributing to society through their works──

A completely new way of creating that supports “independence of expression” and “economic self-reliance”.

First of all, I want to prove this with my own work.

Beyond that, I am also considering establishing a system or association to support young artists.

Towards a cultural platform that connects talented creators and companies.

Please lend me your support in this challenge.
Would you like to “create” the future of manga with us?

… is to communicate this project to companies.
Currently, about 10 companies have inquired, and some companies have already become sponsors.

Thank you for your valuable opinion.

      1. Thank you for your response, Kasumi-san, I appreciate your ambition, it’s really incredible! However, I have now reread my comment and realized that I didn’t express my thoughts correctly and for this you have a little misunderstanding of me.About support, I often write to you on Instagram, because I didn’t know about your blog. I really like your work, but unfortunately I won’t be able to support you financially, although I really want to (I live in Russia), but my friend and I are trying to spread your manga so that more people will know about it (your manga is known to those who have been interested in Japanese car culture for a long time).About the awkwardness, I wrote about myself that I’m too young for such a manga, which is designed for those who lived in the 90s and participated in serpentine races.Once again, thank you very much for your response, and I sincerely appreciate your kindness! Good luck with your manga!

      2. Thank you. I’m happy about your kind feelings. I want to make manga, a part of Japanese culture, available to read in any language around the world. I’m a manga artist thanks to the support of enthusiastic readers like you. I hope you’ll continue to support Crossover Rev, a manga about Japanese cars. I’m truly grateful.
